Scott Lively

Scott currently resides in Zachary, LA. His love of plants came from his grandfather who farmed sugarcane, and his mother who had a passion for garden ornamentals and landscaping. Scott attended LSU where he floated through many programs including extended time studying landscape architecture and horticulture. After college, he took a position as a propagation supervisor at a wholesale nursery in Plaquemine, LA. He moved on from his job in agriculture and into the medical field in 2005 but continued to grow and sell plants from his backyard. It was during that time that he discovered the extensive array of forms and color combinations being revealed through the hybridization of Louisiana iris. He was drawn to them due to their beauty, easy care, propagation method, and ability to be shipped bare-root. He ordered and imported as many Louisiana iris as he could afford over the course of a few years and began hybridizing Louisiana in 2013. In 2017, he gifted most of his iris stock to the Greater New Orleans Iris Society and downsized his operation substantially. Scott is currently focused on creating Louisiana iris with durable, unusually patterned, and vibrant colored flowers that reside on quality stalks which allow for blooms to open properly.
